Brendan Gallagher talks about potentially being traded from Montreal

Following Wednesday's practice, Montreal Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher met with the media and was asked about the possibility of him being traded in the coming weeks leading up to March 21st's deadline.

"It's hard for me to imagine not being in Montreal; it's the only home I've known," Gallagher said according to TSN's John Lu.

With Montreal entering a rebuild, keeping around a guy like Gallagher for leadership would be huge for the younger players. But, with Gallagher turning 30 in a few months and the Canadiens likely not being playoff contenders for the next four or five years, he may want to move on and have a chance to win a Stanley Cup.

"You hope you're not waiting around 4-5 seasons to turn this around," Gallagher added.

Gallagher has spent his entire ten year career with the Montreal Canadiens after they selected him with their fifth round pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. In 612 career games, he's recorded 367 points (191 G, 176 A) and 358 penalty minutes.

It's hard to predict what the Canadiens will do with the heart and soul of their team. If he stays for the rebuild, he'll likely do so by wearing the 'C' on his chest and provide much needed leadership and guidance for a young team. If he wants to move on, then that's his choice, but with five more years on his contract after this season at $6.5 million AAV and a modified no-trade clause that includes a six team no-trade list, it may be tough to find a partner unless they retain a portion of his salary.
